Frequently Asked Questions
How do I make an appointment for a consultation?
Call Karen Willden and set an appointment.  During this time, she will ask you several questions about your space in order to select appropriate samples to bring to the consultation.  Please look at the galleries to see the possibilities.  Decorative Artistry  can "customize" most samples to fit your color scheme or we can create a custom finish just for you.
What is your process?
There is no charge for an initial one-hour consultation. During the appointment, you and I will assess which finishes best suit your needs based upon:
  • Your personal style
  • Function of the room
  • Durability
  • Budget

You may have an idea or picture of what you like, and we can either replicate the finish and/or based upon your ideas, show you other possibilities.  It is recommended that you start a folder and collect pictures that you are drawn to, no matter how dramatic or simple.  This will help communicate your personal style and what you are looking for.

During this initial consulting, you will be able to see the quality and skills of Decorative Artistry and decide if we are the right for you.  Decorative Artistry will submit a firm quote for the work at this time.  If you make your decision during the initial consultation, we will collect a 30% deposit, and, if necessary, return with samples.

What is your payment policy?
A signed agreement and a 30% deposit is required to get on the schedule.  The balance is due upon completion of the project.
Do you charge for samples?
Most samples are custom designed to fit a client's personal taste, style and space.  However, a client may choose a sample from the portfolio or use a sample or picture as an inspiration.
Decorative Artistry requires a deposit of 30% down prior to samples being prepared.  The cost of the sample is built into overall project cost.  It includes at least two samples per wall finish.  For this 30% down, I will continue to work with you until we get the samples right, up to two additional sets of samples.  Beyond that, a charge of $75 per sample will be assessed.  This will be added to the cost of the project.
Samples are considered proprietary artwork, always belong to Decorative Artistry and will not be left with the client after the completion of the job.
What kind of services do you offer as a color consultant?
This will be a return visit and not the initial consultation, unless it is set up in advance  We will go through your home with you, define your syle, favorite colors and help you choose ways to redesign your space through your color choices.
Can we hire you just to pick paint colors and not do faux finishing?
Yes.  We understand that a faux finish is not for everyone, and that choosing colors can be very confusing.  We will not only help you to choose your colors, we will help you determine the type of paint you need to use for each space and make sure your color palate makes sense for your personal style, taste, and function.

What is your process for murals?
Murals and specialty hand painting require an initial image consultation.  It is best to have some ideas in mind and to collect some images of what you would like to see done.  I can work from photographs, pictures from books, or the internet.  If I need to adjust the image by preparing sketches, or search for images, I will need to add the price for this to my bid.
