Karen likes to tell people that she is "an artist with a MBA". In 2000, she left her left-brained,
25-year career in health care Information Technology for a gratifying, right-brained profession; decorative wall painting
(faux finishes, murals, trompe l'oeil and stenciling).
She grew up in the scenic American west where she spent many summers camping with her family. Her
father is a retired geologist and they stayed in some very remote locations. During this time, she discovered her passion
for nature and all of its wonders. It is a constant source of inspiration for her. She credits her creativity to
her love for nature.
Her passion for color, texture and dramatic interiors lead to a career in decorative painting. She trained
under some of the country's leading decorative painters including Martin Alan Hirsch of Faux Finishes Studio, Louisville,
Gary Lord of Prismatic Studios, Cincinnati, Barbara Skivington, Greensboro, NC and Faux Design Studios, Addison, IL.
She has a Botanical Art Certificate from the Morton Arboretum, Lisle, Illinois and is a member of several local and national
Karen is trained and licensed to use the premier "gold label" product line by Faux Effects, featuring state
of the art plasters, paints and glazes. She keeps current with trends in design and decorative painting by taking at
least one workshop per year.
Karen lives in Schaumburg, Illinois and has clients throughout the Chicago metropolitan area.
